Gorillaz are a British musical and visual project created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The project consists of Gorillaz itself and an extensive fictional universe depicting a "virtual band" of cartoon characters. This band has four animated members: 2D (lead vocalist, keyboard, and melodica), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar and drum machine), Noodle (guitar, keyboard, and occasional vocals) and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion). Their fictional universe is explored through the band's website and music videos, as well as a number of other media, such as short cartoons. The music is a collaboration between various musicians, Albarn being the only permanent musical contributor. Their style is a composition of multiple musical genres, with a large number of influences including alternative, rock, hip hop, electronica, dub and pop.
The band's 2001 debut album Gorillaz sold over seven million copies and earned them an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Successful Virtual Band.[1] It was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2001, but the nomination was later withdrawn at the band's request.[2] Their second studio album, Demon Days, released in 2005, went five times platinum in the UK,[3] double platinum in the United States,[4] earned five Grammy Award nominations for 2006[5] and won one of them in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category.[6] The band has won numerous other awards, including two MTV Video Music Awards, an NME Award, three MTV Europe Music Awards, and have been nominated for nine Brit Awards.[7][8] The combined sales of the Gorillaz and Demon Days albums had exceeded 15 million by 2007.[9] The band's third studio album, Plastic Beach, was released in March 2010. Their latest album, The Fall, was released in December 2010 as a free download for fan club members, then in April 2011 as a physical release.
In April 2012, Albarn revealed that the project was "unlikely" to continue due to disagreements with Hewlett.[10] However, he later stated that when he and Hewlett had worked out their differences, another Gorillaz record was possible.Spider monkeys (of several species) live in the tropical rain forests of Central and South America and occur as far north as Mexico. They can be noisy animals and often communicate with many calls, screeches, barks, and other sounds.
Typically, females give birth to only a single baby every two to five years. Young monkeys depend completely on their mothers for about ten weeks, but after that time they begin to explore on their own and play amongst themselves. Mothers continue to care for their young for the first year of their lives, and often move about with their offspring clinging to their backs.
Indigenous peoples often hunt spider monkeys for food, and the animals are usually agitated by human contact. Logging and deforestation continue to shrink the space that spider monkeys are able to call home.Saiyuki (????), also known by its British title Monkey, is a Japanese television drama based on the classic sixteenth-century Chinese novel Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en. Filmed in north-west China and Inner Mongolia, the show was produced by Nippon Television (NTV) and International Television Films in association with NHK, and broadcast from 1978 to 1980 on Nippon Television.the title character, is described in the theme song as being "born from an egg on a mountain top"; a stone egg and thus he is a stone monkey, a skilled fighter who becomes a brash king of a monkey tribe, who, the song goes on to claim, was "the funkiest monkey that ever popped". Monkey eats many of the peaches, which have taken centuries and millennia to ripen, becomes immortal and runs amok. Having earned the ire of Heaven and being beaten in a challenge by an omniscient, mighty, but benevolent, cloud-dwelling Buddha, Monkey is imprisoned for 500 years under a mountain in order to learn patience.
Eventually, in 630 CE, Monkey is released by the monk Tripitaka, who has been tasked by the Boddhisatva Guan Yin to undertake a pilgrimage from China to India to fetch holy scriptures. The pair soon recruit two former members of the Heavenly Host who were cast out and turned from angels to "monsters", as a result of Monkey's transgressions: Sandy, the water monster and ex-cannibal, expelled from Heaven after his interference caused Heaven's Jade Emperor's precious jade cup to be broken, and Pigsy, a pig monster consumed with lust and gluttony, who was expelled from Heaven after harassing the Star Princess Vega—the Jade Emperor's mistress—for a kiss. A dragon, Yu Lung, who was set free by Guan Yin after being sentenced to death, eats Tripitaka's horse. On discovering that the horse was tasked with carrying Tripitaka, it assumes the horse's shape to carry the monk on his journey. Later in the story he occasionally assumes human form to assist his new master, although he is still always referred to as 'Horse'. Monkey can also change form, for instance into a hornet. In Episode 3, The Great Journey Begins, Monkey transforms into a girl to trick Pigsy. Monkey's other magic powers include: summoning a cloud upon which he can fly; his use of the magic wishing staff which he can shrink and grow at will and from time to time, when shrunk, store in his ear, and which he uses as a weapon; and the ability to conjure monkey warriors by blowing on hairs plucked from his chest.A cartoon monkey image is a two dimensional picture of a monkey. I was shocked and offended. And for the record, I am white--I am not a person of color. More shocking was that this photo was sent through E-mail by a Republican Party central committee member, Marilyn Davenport, a Tea Party activist. Now Orange County, or the “O.C.” as Californians refer to it, is about more than The Real Housewives of Orange County. But that cast pretty much sums up most of the O.C.: blonde, rich, and white. I said most. There are certainly many people of color, minorities in Orange County. And obviously, there is a person of color in the White House. He’s our president. When the word “racism” is invoked in connection with the name Obama, there is a flurry of anger from the right that racism has nothing to do with whatever the issue is. Well Ms. Davenport has just proved a whole lot of them wrong. Racism has everything to do with this and other issues, from questioning his religion, to his place of birth. It’s one thing to attack a person on the issues, but on the color of their skin???!
I had a caller on my radio program last night, J.D. from Chicago. He proudly told me that he was a white man who marched with Martin Luther King, Jr.; and with tears in his voice, he said: “I thought this was over.” I’m afraid J.D. that it isn’t.
Although the days of bringing African-Americans to this country on boats in chains are behind us, the hatred and elitist attitude of whites that we saw for centuries still ring true today. Although the civil rights amendment has been passed, still many question why the need for affirmative action? Ms. Davenport just answered your question America. Whether it’s monkeys, the “n-word” or Sambo, it’s not the E-mail Ms Davenport is apologizing for, it’s the fact she got caught.
Ah racism is alive and well in America in 2011. It’s sad, it’s ugly, and it’s true. Ms. Davenport should do more than step down. She should apologize to the president in person; and, as one of my Twitter followers suggested, she should then shine his shoes.
The pilgrims face many perils and antagonists both human and supernatural. Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy are often called upon to battle demons, monsters and bandits, despite Tripitaka's constant call for peace. Many episodes also feature some moral lesson, usually based upon Buddhist and/or Taoist philosophies, which are spoken by the narrator at the end of various scenes.
