Tiana is a fictional main character who appears in Walt Disney Pictures' 49th animated feature film The Princess and the Frog (2009). Based on the heroine Princess Emma from E. D. Baker's novel The Frog Princess, which was inspired by the German fairy tale "The Frog Prince" by The Brothers Grimm, Tiana, a hardworking waitress, dreams of opening her own restaurant. However, her progress is stalled when she, in a modernized twist on the original fairy tale, turns into a frog after kissing a prince who has been transformed into one as well. The ninth Disney Princess, Tiana is the first to be of African American heritage.
Tiana has been mostly positively received, with critics praising her personality and values. However, Tiana's ethnicity has been met with mixed reception, driven by speculation and controversy. While some critics met Disney's decision to make Tiana their first black princess with praise, others scrutinized it, questioning the studio's reasoning behind it[who?Adapting the fairy tale "The Frog Prince" by The Brothers Grimm into an animated feature film was being considered around the same time Beauty and the Beast (1991) was in its development stages. With the exception of one, it is a compilation of all the cartoon portraits that were featured in Once a Week, a magazine originally founded as a result of a dispute between Bradbury and Evans and Charles Dickens. Bradbury and Evans had been Dickens’ publisher since 1844, including publishing his magazine Household Words. In 1859, Bradbury and Evans refused to carry an advertisement by Dickens explaining why he had broken with Mrs. Dickens. In consequence, Dickens stopped work on Household Words and founded a new magazine, All The Year Round, which he decided would be editorially independent of any publisher. Bradbury and Evans responded by founding Once A Week, with veteran editor and abolitionist hero Samuel Lucas at the head. - See more at: http://publicdomainreview.org/2012/08/17/cartoon-portraits-of-leading-19th-century-figures-1873/#sthash.FiUXTvAC.dpufBeing green helps the red-eyed tree frog blend in with tree leaves. This keeps it hidden from both the insects it eats and the predators that want to eat it. Red-eyed tree frogs are nocturnal, or active at night. During the day they rest. When one of these tree frogs sits still on a green leaf, legs tucked in and eyes shut, it is practically invisible.Feeling a bit jumpy lately? The Easter Bunny may be the best known animal that represents the dawn of spring, but don’t count out that other hopper—the frog! We bet most of you didn’t know that April is National Frog Month—a time that celebrates and encourages amphibious preservation and cultivation.
But frogs aren’t just for the halls of science…or something to munch on at a French restaurant…or an educational gadget your kid doodles on (think: LeapFrog).
